This study focuses on the origin of dolomite precipitation with reference to deeply buried sublacustrine fan sandstones. It provides an opportunity to examine geochemical interactions between organic biodegradation kinetics and local inorganic minerals in microbial sulfate reduction.

Natural fractures in the volcanic rocks of the Xujiaweizi depression, Songliao Basin, China have been analyzed and the findings are reported in this paper. Tectonic fractures at angles less than 30° have higher gas production as they are under less compressive stress and make the best fluid flow pathways in the reservoir.

An integrated approach based on combined sequence stratigraphy, sedimentology, and organic geochemistry was carried out to identify and assess the effective source rocks of recent oil discoveries in the North Yellow Sea Basin, eastern China. These results are significant to future exploration here and in similar environments.

The sandstones of the Guantao Formation in the Gudong oil field consist of meandering river facies.  Five channel stories were identified.  The initial story was mostly developed in the middle of the meander belt axis, while the last story was deposited near the margin of the meander belt.

The kerogen type and maturity level along with the high clay content and poor to moderate brittleness indicates low fracability, thereby restricting the production potential of the Cambay Shale for tight gas or oil exploration.

Fluorescence colors of oil inclusions may be good indicators of thermal maturity in oil systems charged from oil-prone source rocks.  This makes it possible to quantitatively predict the thermal maturity of oil inclusions based on their fluorescence characteristics.
