Matching talent with short-term projects, and giving geoscientists the tools they need to successfully complete the projects is the perfect solution for quickly changing times.  It’s also a perfect solution when the pool of highly specialized technical experts is dispersed throughout the world.  To solve those twin problems and to bring together projects and people, Petrocubic developed an easy-to-use platform, Petrocubic (http://www.petrocubic.com).  Welcome to an interview with Vitaly Meyer, founder of Petrocubic. Petrocubic is growing quickly and will be featured in AAPG’s U-Pitch program at ACE, May 19 - 22. https://ace.aapg.org/2019/networking-and-events/u-pitch and at URTeC, July 22-24.

In energy discussions, many conversations have focused on what must be done for the future. This is only part of the sustainability definition. There is also a responsibility to meet the needs of the present. “Humanity has the ability to make development sustainable to ensure that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs,” reads the United Nations “Report of the World Commission on Environment and Development: Our Common Future.”

Coherence and curvature attribute computations are usually carried out on stacked seismic data volumes to delineate faults, flexures and large fractures. If the vertically-aligned parallel fractures in the subsurface are filled with fluid, or weakly cemented, the P-wave velocity across the fractures will be slower than that parallel to the fractures. These differences give rise to a velocity variation with azimuth. Because impedance is the product of density and velocity, such fractures also give rise to amplitude variation with offset.

The Energy Minerals Division celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2002. The Division emphasized to the AAPG membership that it was AAPG’s center of activity on energy minerals and unconventional energy resources. EMD originally focused primarily on coal, uranium, geothermal energy, oil shales and tar sands. However, its focus expanded and in 2002, EMD’s most active unconventional resource areas were coalbed methane, gas hydrates, and unconventional energy economics.

AAPG Asia Pacific will present our third learning event in Indonesia; after Bali and Bandung. This Geosciences Technology Workshop (GTW) will be held from 7-8 August 2019 in Bogor, Greater Jakarta. The theme is 'The Art of Hydrocarbon Prediction: Managing Uncertainties' and the committee is very enthusiastic about the program. In September, some members of the committee met with PT Pertamina,to seek their support for this event. Helmed by an advisory board and a technical committee, this event is currently welcoming abstracts before 15 January.
