The Professorial award, given by the American Association for Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Foundation, is granted annually to a college or university professor who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the field of geoscience education.

Student member benefits include subscriptions to the AAPG Bulletin, and the Explorer; discounts on publications, courses, and conferences; and an online database of student resumes.

AAPG’s Nigerian Affiliate the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists held her 32nd annual conference in Lagos. The conference featured several engaging and stimulating programs with significant participation from AAPG Africa Region.
The regional lecture involving AAPG Distinguished Lecturer Terry Engelder was held successfully in Cairo in September 2014 and was the result of collaborative efforts between AAPG Africa Region and the Egyptian Petroleum Exploration Society.
The AAPG Africa Region IBA 2015 competition will take place among 22 teams from six African countries.
The AAPG Africa Region IBA 2015 competition will take place among many teams from across Africa in Lagos, Nigeria. The winner will represent Africa at the Global IBA competition in Denver CO, USA May 29 – 31, 2015 at the annual AAPG Exhibition and Conference, for an opportunity to win up to $20,000 USD in scholarship funds for their university.
The AGSC is an annual student focused event organized by geoscience students. It is aimed at providing West African geoscience students an avenue to broaden their perspectives on many aspects and issues concerning the geoscience industry through interaction with practicing geoscience professionals. It also provides a platform for the exchange of geoscience technical knowledge amongst geoscience students in Africa.
The newly formed AAPG Angola Chapter held their inaugural seminar 21 May 2014. It covered the distal end of the Congo Delta. It was the first of a series of seminars to be hosted by the chapter on a quarterly basis.
