Interaction between sea-level changes and depositional tectonics: Implications for hydrocarbon prospectivity in the western coastal swamp depobelt, Niger Delta Basin, Nigeria

This paper presents the potential depositional framework of sandstones and unconsolidated sand reservoirs, seals, and traps in the western part of the coastal swamp depobelt of the Niger Delta Basin, Nigeria, through integration of sequence stratigraphy and seismic imaging.

Our young professionals population increased and we held a number of interesting YP-focused activities across the region with excellent feedback. We are very upbeat about 2020. We intend to build on the successes of the previous year by providing relevant technical education and networking opportunities for our YPs across the region.

Publication Pipeline Committee Expands Its Global Outreach

For almost two decades, the AAPG Publication Pipeline Committee has helped preserve and spread educational materials to all corners of the globe. The effort began at the University of Houston when a visiting professor from Nigeria mentioned that universities in Africa were in dire need of technical journals and publications. Since then, the PPC has made 67 shipments – 215 tons – of publications to more than 80 universities around the world.

2019: The Year in Review

The oil and gas industry began 2019 hoping to thrive and ended the year mostly happy to survive. Offshore drilling dominated exploration but, despite several significant discoveries, reserve replacement rates remained low. Global geopolitical tensions simmered and sometimes boiled over throughout last year. In oil and gas prices, “Lower-for-Longer” came back to linger. The world saw abundant crude oil production and a surfeit of natural gas.

The AAPG is a global force for good in our industry, and frankly, after 35 years exploring for oil and gas around the world, I needed to stop taking AAPG for granted. Energy Transition Must Address Energy Poverty

While many see the energy transition as the switch from carbon-based to non- carbon-based fuels, Scott Tinker sees a broader definition. Tinker, past AAPG president, director of the Bureau of Economic Geology and Texas state geologist, suggested the goal of a successful transition is lifting some 2.5 billion people out of poverty by addressing energy poverty, as well as by minimizing environmental impacts.

Biostratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy of the Oligocene succession, offshore Nile Delta, southeastern Mediterranean, Egypt, and its paleoenvironmental implications

High-resolution analyses of foraminiferal and calcareous nannofossils were undertaken to understand the sequence stratigraphic architecture, depositional settings, paleoenvironments, and evolution of gas-bearing sequences in the Oligocene of the offshore Nile Delta and the Mediterranean region.
