Presalt stratigraphy and depositional systems in the Kwanza Basin, offshore Angola

This paper presents data and interpretations on presalt stratigraphy and depositional facies in the Kwanza Basin, offshore Angola, which appear similar to the presalt systems in Brazil. Lacustrine sedimentation has resulted in many unusual carbonate and chert facies.

Oxy Libya: Giant Strides For a Small Company

When Occidental Petroleum Corporation was reorganized in 1959, its total oil production was some 100 barrels per day. By the time Moammar Gaddaffi nationalized the industry in 1969, Oxy Libya, the wholly owned subsidiary, was producing 800,000 barrels per day. Such an amount made Oxy Libya the eighth largest producer in the world.

East Africa / Rwanda Opportunity: Express Interest by March 28

The government of Rwanda, located in east-central Africa, has completed two projects that deal with exploring for oil and gas in the areas that are most prospective for the kinds of discoveries now being made in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. Now, a third project has been authorized, which involves seismic data acquisition and processing in Lake Kivu, Rwanda. The objective is to acquire and process multichannel seismic data in order to map the sediments beneath Lake Kivu, where methane seeps and near-surface accumulations are already being used for energy generation. Now, the goal is to evaluate the sediments beneath Lake Kivu for their hydrocarbon potential.

Offshore Oil Production Continues to Grow

While the industry and public have been focused on unconventional onshore production, offshore oil production has been steadily growing. Many offshore projects reflect long-term financial commitments made before the oil price collapse. They will continue to come online for at least the next couple of years.The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports eight GOM field startups in 2014 and expects eight more in 2015 and five in 2016. Global offshore production is also growing. The International Energy Agency (IEA) projects that the offshore could deliver 20 percent of global oil production by 2017.
