Learning is important—now more than ever. How do you equip yourself for changing times? How do you deepen and broaden your knowledge? Here is an informal place to find out what we’re doing, what we’re planning, and how we’re listening to you. Dr. Susan Nash, AAPG’s Director of Education and Professional Development, shares the new territory she’s introducing to AAPG with courses and dynamic new workshops. She is also planning more interactive, Web 2.0 offerings. So, give her your input about the best and worst of the wild and woolly world of webinars, Web-based training, and open courseware.

How many times have you kicked yourself because you made decisions without really having time to get all the expert opinions? When could your team have been better – both in determining where to explore and how to complete a well?

I’m never doing that again! I learned my lesson!  But, then, here I am, doing the same thing – why is that? Did I not learn from experience?   That’s what I told myself as I prepared to buy properties I planned to improve and convert into highly profitable revenue generators that would provide income for years to come. The last time I did this, I got burned.  After I did that, I decided that zero percent interest was better than seeing my capital hemorrhage away.   Actually, it’s not so simple. Experience is often not the teacher we think it is. Further, the fact that I’m doing it again, despite my painful experience, may be an indication that I’ve developed a better approach.    Further, my decision to try again simply demonstrates that sometimes the lessons we think we learned are not what they seem to be, and also that we should not shy away from certain fields of endeavor just because of an isolated experience.
