Jon Allen grew up in Centerville, Maine, a thriving metropolis of 32 people along the Maine coast. He attended Colby College in Waterville, Maine initially as a pre-med student, but after taking Intro to Geology and later Mineralogy, he declared a major in Geology-Biology. He studied abroad at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand where he was able to tramp all over the South Island and help excavate a giant Paleocene penguinå¨.

Jon spent the next six years at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he earned master’s and doctoral degrees in Geosciences, where his areas of interest are in fluvial sedimentology and stratigraphy, sequence stratigraphy, paleoclimate, and floral paleoecology. His research was focused on coal-bearing fluvial to coastal plain successions in Australia and Atlantic Canada.

Jon joined Chevron in the Fall of 2009 and currently works for Chevron North America E & P in Bakersfield, California, home to one of the world’s largest and most prolithic fluvial reservoirs, where he provides expertise in fluvial systems to aid in reservoir characterization. He has also developed a keen interest in quantitative stratigraphy and earth modeling. Jon is the point of contact for the Pacific Section of the Young Professionals and has been actively engaged in placing interested YPs on other AAPG committees. He is a member of AAPG, GSA, SEPM, IAS, and the San Joaquin Geologic Society.
