Of Lebanese descent, Riyad grew up in the UAE and travelled extensively as a child. He immigrated to the United States in 1992 and was naturalized as a proud citizen in 2007, the same year he joined Chevron out of graduate school… a great year of accomplishments!
Riyad is currently working as an exploration geologist for Chevron in Houston, TX. Previous to his current assignment, he was a deepwater stratigraphy expert consulting internally within Chevron primarily with core interpretation, a great gig!
Riyad graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth with an M.S. in geology with an emphasis in Mesozoic fluvial stratigraphy of the Colorado Plateau. He also holds a B.S. in Geology from the University of Utah with a Senior Thesis in metamorphic petrology of the Alta Stock. It was in Utah where his passions for geology and the outdoors were born and developed. Riyad has been very active in AAPG since his undergraduate days where he served as the Secretary of the Executive Committee for the inaugural Student Chapter at the University of Utah, and was also the chair of the outreach committee and the outdoor activities committee.
Riyad’s passions revolve around rock climbing, skiing, kayaking, scuba diving and photography, and travels extensively to seek them out. His favorite spots are ironic opposites, the Prince William Sound in Alaska, and the San Rafael Swell in Utah.
