Welcome to the students
Title of Short Course
Most of the material in the short course is courtesy of ExxonMobil
Original material compiled by Fred W Schroeder
Image from about 1912 – East Texas
Slide 2
The Short Course has a total of 17 units
Most units consist of a short lecture followed by a hands-on exercise
Unfortunately, we have to regress to using paper maps, logs and seismic sections
However, to understand the basics, paper is still an appropriate medium
This eliminates the need to teach some type of interpretation software
To teach all of the units would require about 3 days (24 hours)
Typically, a subset of topics are selected to fit the allotted time
Slide 3
In case of a fire or other emergency, how do we exit the room?
Review the class hours, breaks, any arrangements for food/drinks
Expectation that the course will be informal
Ask questions
Let me know if I use unfamiliar terms
E.g., EUR = Estimated Ultimate Recovery

Course Goals:
Provide insights into how geology & geophysics are used in industry
Problems, workflows, investigations, a few hours can not do justice
For those considering career options:
Remove some of the mystery surrounding scientific work in the energy industry
Perhaps the course will pique your interset
Slide 7
Within the 17 units, some figures come from published
papers/books
These will be noted on the slides
This is a list of books and journal articles that were used.
