The Great Unconformity. Cambrian Tapeats Sandstone in angular contact with underlying Precambrian sedimentary rocks, with time gap of tens to hundreds of million years, representing a previous mountain range now eroded away and covered. 500 million years have elapsed since these mountains were eroded away. The unconformity can also be seen from the canyon rim at Desert Watchtower.
