Energy Policy Blog

In order to create political influence among countries in the Central American and Caribbean region, Hugo Chavez, the late President of Venezuela, created an energy alliance called Petrocaribe in 2005.

Explorer Director’s Corner

It’s a big world out there and AAPG has Members living and working in all corners. It’s our pleasure to serve them as they explore and produce oil and natural gas to fuel the planet.

Explorer Foundation Update

It has a new name, a new energy and a new lineup of experts, all primed to spread geoscience knowledge around the world. “It” is AAPG’s newly named Global Distinguished Lecture Program – emphasis on the “global” – which dates back to 1941 but continues to be the Association’s flagship initiative for offering the latest in geologic science to AAPG affiliated geological societies and universities.

Explorer Historical Highlight

When one of us joined Royal Dutch Shell in 1980, seven out of 27 young professionals in the basic training course were Swiss – a remarkable number of students from a tiny country that does not produce oil or gas. The term “Swiss mafia” was coined by our Dutch colleagues, and it wasn’t meant in a complimentary sense.

The Caribbean has become a classic locus for unraveling regional paleogeographic evolution. Although there are a few who continue to question it, the collective efforts of these many geoscientists have led to numerous principles that demand a Pacific origin for the Caribbean oceanic lithosphere.

Explorer Making a Difference

AAPG’s Publication Pipeline Committee recently had a small celebration to mark a very big accomplishment: Just a few weeks ago, the group officially topped the 100-ton mark of books, periodicals and other information that have been shipped around the world.

This course emphasizes key changes in reservoir models that have a major impact in exploration and production of these reservoirs. The course will include lectures, exercises, and observations from cores, well logs and seismic profiles. Participants will learn how to interpret and map environments of deposition (EoD’s) in deep water systems and understand how the different EoD’s and sub-EoD’s behave as reservoirs.
