Saturday, April 19 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
This seminar provides specific job search strategies and tips for finding that perfect job and is designed to assist students and recent graduates seeking employment to better understand the daily activities in the energy and environmental industries.
All students and faculty attending the convention are invited to the AAPG/SEPM Student reception beginning at 6:00 p.m. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and refreshments at the reception followed by announcement of awards and prizes including the Imperial Barrel Award results.
Complimentary refreshments are provided each day during exhibition hours. The lounge offers students their own place to meet with fellow students and industry professionals to develop career contacts and lifelong friendships.
The Imperial Barrel Award (IBA) competition returns to the AAPG Annual Convention. Universities from around the world, offering master’s-level degrees in petroleum geoscience, are eligible to participate in this competition. IBA provides a unique opportunity for students to gain valuable experience by participating in an exploration evaluation, presenting to a panel of senior industry experts and competing to win scholarship funding.
This group competition is a global exploration geoscience project focused on the assessment of the petroleum potential of a basin. Teams will be provided a complete data set and will have a few weeks to complete a technical assessment of the basin’s petroleum prospects. On the Friday and Saturday prior to the convention, teams will give a thirty-minute presentation of their work with recommendations for future activity. A panel of industry experts will judge the technical work and presentations. The results of the competition will be announced at the Student Reception on April 21, 2008 and the top three teams will win generous cash prizes.
