AAPG Home : Meetings : 2008 ACE-San Antonio : Student Activities
SEPM (Society for Sedimentary Geology), which holds its annual meeting in conjunction with the AAPG Annual Convention, hopes that everyone will enjoy a fiesta in San Antonio and take advantage of the excellent technical program, short courses and field trips, as well as the specific activities listed here. Please note that this year SEPM activities are located either at the Grand Hyatt Hotel or the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
If you have any questions about SEPM activities, feel free to contact Theresa Scott at SEPM Headquarters (tscott@sepm.org).
Take a look at highlights of several years of stratigraphic experiments and discuss why they might be applicable to the field with Dr. Chris Paola, currently a Professor in the Department of Geology & Geophysics, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Director of the National Center for Earth-surface Dynamics, an NSF Science and Technology Center.
SEPM President Mary Kraus invites you to an evening of celebration to honor the 2008 award winners of SEPM. The reception will begin at 7:00 p.m., with cocktails available at cash bars and substantial hors d'oeuvres. The awards ceremony will start at 7:30 p.m.
SEPM would like to invite anyone who is interested in research group activities to attend the SEPM Research Group Meetings. Individual Research Groups will meet on Monday, April 21 at the Grand Hyatt. Rooms will be announced later. Check the SEPM Web site (www.sepm.org) for updates.
SEPM would like to invite all students to attend the combined AAPG/SEPM Student Reception, sponsored by ExxonMobil. The reception will be held just prior to the SEPM Research Group meetings on Monday, April 21 at the Grand Hyatt. Students can enjoy food and drink and then go on to the SEPM Research Group topic of their choice to network and listen to the latest discussions.
The geologic record provides us the only possible means to understand natural climate variability. This symposium is a two-part session that will discuss the impact of paleoclimate studies and the context and perspective for paleoclimate research.
Be sure to check out the great array of trips and courses. Students should be made especially aware of the courses Sequence Stratigraphy for Graduate Students and 3-D Seismic Interpretation for Geologists, which have a large number of student seats sponsored by ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips, respectively.
SEPM has partnered with the Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Austin on several courses and trips for which JSG has also sponsored discounted student seats and supplied in-kind donations toward course notes, guidebooks and core usage.
