This two-day trip will examine cores and outcrops of important middle Paleozoic mudrock systems in Texas. Included will be the Devonian Woodford, the Mississippian Barnett and the Pennsylvanian Smithwick formations. On the first day, attendees will examine and discuss representative subsurface cores of each system.

Core discussions will be accompanied by poster and oral presentations for each succession. The second day will be devoted to examining the depositional and stratigraphic character of these and related rocks in key outcrops in the Texas Hill Country. On both days, emphasis will be placed on interpreting and understanding variations in sedimentary structures, depositional setting, mineralogy, organic matter content, pore size and controlling mechanisms.

Day 1 - Saturday:
Bus will depart San Antonio at 7:30 a.m. Core and poster presentations will be given at the Bureau of Economic Geology in Austin. Attendees will spend the night in Austin.
Day 2 - Sunday:
Bus will pick up participants early Sunday morning and travel to outcrops of Barnett and Smithwick mudrocks and overlying and underlying facies in the northern Texas Hill Country. Buses will return to San Antonio by 5:00 p.m.
