Barrier Island landforms and development

This one-day trip will explore the Mustang/North Padre Island barrier-island system. Excellent examples of a variety of barrier-island geo-environments will be easily accessible. On this excursion, emphasis will be placed on discussing the historical trends of the system, modern processes and expected future changes in light of climate change, sealevel rise and development.
Itinerary:
- 7:00 a.m.
- Depart from San Antonio for Mustang Island
- 10:00 a.m.
- Arrive on Mustang/North Padre Islands
- 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
- Field stops on Mustang/North Padre Islands
- 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.
- Lunch, probably a box lunch taken at Mustang Island State Park or the Padre Island National Seashore
- 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Additional field stops
- 5:00 p.m.
- Dinner
- 6:00 p.m.
- Depart for San Antonio
- 9:00 p.m.
- Arrive in San Antonio
There are a limited number of sponsored registrations available for students on a firstcome basis. If you wish to register for one of the sponsored spots, please register online at www.aapg.org/sanantonio/registration.cfm. If sponsored space is no longer available, you can register at the full fee and/or you can place your name on the waiting list for a sponsored space in the field trip.
Important Notes Regarding Field Trips
- Field trip enrollment is limited and reserved on a first-come basis. Registration must be accompanied by full payment.
- If you register only for a field trip, a $30 non-registrant fee will be added to the field trip fee. This fee may be applied toward registration if you decide to attend the convention.
- A wait list is automatically created if a field trip sells out. The AAPG Convention Department will notify you if space becomes available. Undersubscribed field trips will be cancelled.
- Before purchasing non-refundable airline tickets, confirm that the trip will take place.
- It is important that you note your gender on your registration form for room assignments.
- Several weeks prior to the trip, participants will receive an itinerary with details of meeting points, transportation during the trip, phone and fax numbers and email addresses of hotels and trip leaders, etc. Please indicate your fax and email on your registration.
- f any field trips meet your needs or the needs of your staff, you are encouraged to register early.
- To help us better anticipate the number of attendees and avoid premature cancellation of field trips, please register well before March 20, 2008.
- Neither AAPG or trip leaders maintain insurance covering illness or injury for individuals.
