Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are used throughout the petroleum industry to manage, analyze and present geographic data. This course teaches basic GIS concepts, terminology and data structures using the ArcGIS software. through a combination of lecture and hands-on exercises, participants learn how to create a map, explore existing data, query database tables and analyze spatial data using petroleum specific datasets and examples.
This course has been used by dozens of petroleum organizations to kick-start their GIS initiatives. The scope and length of this course makes it popular with geologists and other geoscience professionals, geologic technicians and managers alike. Topics include:
Note: This course is hands-on and laptops will be provided for use during the workshop. Each student will be given a workbook that includes all of the instructor lecture notes as well as a set of step-by-step exercises. A set of petroleum-specific sample data for working the exercises also will be provided.
