Carbon Sequestration is an emerging field that is becoming a business opportunity for petroleum companies and others. This workshop reviews the basics of carbon sequestration, criteria for site selection, sources for CO2, enhanced oil and coalbed methane production utilizing CO2 and regulatory issues, among other topics. The issue of site selection will consider both geologic and engineering aspects, as well as regional versus reservoir-specific perspectives. Instruments for measurement, monitoring and verification, including emerging tools, will be discussed.

The workshop will also introduce the potential of saline reservoir sequestration and will further provide an overview of “FutureGen”, a zero emissions, coal-fired powerplant. The importance of outreach programs to stakeholders in facilitating approval for CO2 sequestration projects will also be considered. Managers, geologists, engineers and geophysicists who need to understand this emerging field of carbon sequestration are encouraged to attend.

There are a limited number of sponsored registrations available for students on a first-come basis. If you wish to register for one of the sponsored spots, please register online at www.aapg.org/sanantonio/registration.cfm. If sponsored space is no longer available, you can register at the full fee and/or you can place your name on the waiting list for a sponsored space in the short course.
