This is an interactive, computer-based course on the fundamentals of seismic reflection processing of near-surface data. It is designed to extend one’s understanding of the basic principles taught in introductory courses on seismic exploration. The instructional approach consists of a sequence of 12 hands-on computer laboratory processing exercises designed to demonstrate the consequences of various model simplifications and mathematical assumptions imposed on the real earth during seismic processing. The optional Saturday evening session (pizza provided) will include a lecture on the spectral decomposition method of transforming seismic data to a higher frequency representation (comparable to a sonic log) and a hands-on opportunity to try this in the processing package, SPW.
There are a limited number of sponsored registrations available for students on a first-come basis. If you wish to register for one of the sponsored spots, please register online at www.aapg.org/sanantonio/registration.cfm. If sponsored space is no longer available, you can register at the full fee and/or you can place your name on the waiting list for a sponsored space in the short course.
