Women have come a long way in the last 100 years, transforming the workplace and the oilfield as they’ve fought their way into roles previously considered off-limits to them. As much as attitudes and expectations have changed, however, challenges remain as women continue to blaze new trails in the industry. These were the recurring themes at the Pioneering Women in Petroleum Geology Forum.

Standing Columns

This year is a pivotal year for the AAPG, in order to make it more nimble and adaptable to a rapidly changing business and social environment. The ultimate goal is for the AAPG to continue to be the “go to” association for petroleum geoscience, regardless of market conditions and budgeting constraints.

Many areas of the western Barents Sea host shallow as well as deep-seated hydrocarbon accumulations from which fluids are migrating to the sea floor. Evidence of past episodes of gas migration can be seen in the form of pockmarks on the sea floor as well as vertical pipes or chimneys on seismic sections.

The present day Cretaceous Codell oil and gas development in the central portion of the Denver Basin of Colorado can be attributed to an earlier effort in bringing the Codell to the attention of the industry.
