External Affairs Committee Chairman's Report

American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)

The ad hoc External Affairs Committee is a long name for a short specific task. Over lunch at the ACE last April, Paul Britt's charm and convincing ways persuaded me to evaluate the existing two documents we share with SIPES, the Confidentiality Agreement and the Contract for Geoscience Services through this ad hoc committee. These two documents had originally been developed by Bob Sabaté many years ago, and are in need of revision to better serve current members' needs, a process which had been started under Rick Ericson's term. In researching the provenance of these contracts, Pat Gratton said that he plied Bob with liquor to convince him to take on the task initially. Maybe I should have held out for the tequila?

An ably qualified committee representing both DPA and SIPES members have agreed to take on this task; many are hold-over's from last year. Many are members of both organizations. They are:

  • Paul Britt, DPA
  • Mike Fogarty, DPA
  • Pete Mackenzie, SIPES
  • Jack Naumann, SIPES
  • Steve Reynolds, SIPES

Additionally, addressing today's contract environment, we plan to include a Master Service Agreement form.

So, if you've had occasion to customize any of these documents, or have suggestions for us, please contact any committee member. Our goal is to have final proposals, vetted by legal counsel, to present to the DPA board at the Mid Year Meeting in November.
