Continuing Education Committee

American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)

The DPA Continuing Education Committee had three main goals for the 2010-2011 year. They included:

  1. Assemble a list of potential DPA educational programs that can be used by the societies, sections and regions by late fall 2010. This will be building on past work by the Education committee. Some of the topics included:
  2. Ethics, Reserves, Mapping, Risk Assessment, and Governmental Affairs.
  3. Strive to get some of the educational programs online by spring 2011, and build on the work by Rick Ericksen and David Hart to accumulate a library of on-line Ethics courses that can be taken to earn Professional Development Hours (PDHs)
  4. Find a group of members that would like to serve on the Educational committee.

We have assembled reasonable list of presentations that DPA councilors and members can use to set up events at future meetings (including Schools/Educationals, Ethics Courses, Forums/Special Sessions). For many of these presentations we have an outline of the presentation and biography of the presenters. This is a dynamic process, and we will continue to solicit good presentation to add to our list. A copy of the list is found on the second page of this report.

We have Dilemmas of Trust, video presentation by Judge Hughes on the DPA website, thanks to the efforts of Rick Ericksen, Norma Newby and a number of Midland DPA members. By May, we should have Bob Shoup's Black Belt of Ethics and The Grey Scale of Ethics on the DPA website. I don't have other full-time members. However, I have eight DPA members in Midland that are helping on specific projects.
