Since August of 2010 total DPA Membership has increased from 2636 to 2786 members or an increase of 150 members. 138 of the 150 new members were in the Active Membership category.

Membership Recruitment Campaign

Last fall the DPA began a membership recruitment campaign. The goal of the campaign was to contact every eligible non-DPA AAPG member and invite them to apply for DPA membership. The method to accomplish to this goal was the following:

1. Eligible Non-members were divided into blocks (or Phases) of approximately 2000 (1750 domestic and 250 international).
2. Mail eligible non-members a letter from DPA President Dan Tearpock inviting them to join the DPA (thanks, Dan). In Phase 3, the mailed letter was eliminated and replaced with an email.
3. The letter was followed with an email with contact information and instructions on how to join. Both telephone and website contact information were included in the email. This successfully utilizes our website and streamlined application information.
4. DPA Councilors and board members were given a list of 20 eligible members in their sections to contact. Councilors were to record their contact information on a spreadsheet and return those to the AAPG Divisions Office.
5. The AAPG Divisions Office is compiling this information into a master spreadsheet to track trends.

We are currently working Phase 3. Please see the attached report supplied to me from the AAPG Divisions Office summarizing Phase 1, 2 and 3.

Our next step is to complete Phase 3 and then start Phase 4 later in the year.

December Explorer DPA Ad

Every year the AAPG offers us a free quarter page ad to be run in the Explorer. Did you see it in the December issue? We can run another one this year. What is the best month?

What else can we do?

1. Whenever possible invite an AAPG member to join the DPA. Do you ever ask other members if they are part of the DPA? I am surprised at that the number of members and co-workers, who have never considered joining the DPA. We all know personal contact is the best way to grow the membership of an organization, so please give this a try and invite a member to join. If you have a question, please give me or headquarters a call.
2. We are always open to new ideas on how to contact eligible members and make them aware of benefits of joining the DPA. I am open to your advice.

Finally, THANK YOU - I greatly appreciate the tremendous work and dedication of AAPG Divisions Manager, Norma Newby, and her staff with the membership campaign this year. Their work load was already heavy when they agreed to work this campaign.
