For those of you who have enjoyed a career in exploration and even for those of you new to exploration (particularly IBA alums), AAPG has an opportunity for you to become involved in teaching students in the IBA program to achieve a greater understanding of the basin in which they are exploring for hydrocarbons. That is, to be an industry mentor to a requesting school for a coach, as in the Global Mentor program or to continue to be an IBA coach in 2021 at a previously identified school.

After 13 years of taking teachers into the field, this year’s G-Camp was held virtually in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers said. The program is aimed at 5th through 12th-grade teachers and offers supplemental material for the teachers’ science curriculum. The goal is to have teachers return to the classroom with new knowledge and excited about what they are teaching, and ultimately for “the kids to come to college saying, ‘I want to enroll in geology.’”

Discovery Series 10 – Sandstone Petrology: A Tutorial Petrographic Image Atlas 2nd Edition and Discovery Series 15 – Carbonate Petrology: Interactive Petrography Tutorial, both authored by Kitty Milliken, have been posted online for easy accessibility.
