AAPG Communications Department Wins APEX 2011 Award of Excellence

The Communications Department of American Association of Petroleum Geologists has been awarded the APEX 2011 Award of Excellence in the Member & Customer Communications category for its work on the multi-media “We Are AAPG” project.

APEX 2011 – the 23rd Annual Awards for Publication Excellence – is an international competition that recognizes outstanding publications from newsletters and magazines to annual reports, brochures and websites.

According to the APEX 2011 judges, “The awards were based on excellence in graphic design, quality of editorial content and the success of the entry in conveying the message and achieving overall communications effectiveness.”

The “We Are AAPG” project included a 32-page four-color, hard-bound book with a credit card-shaped USB that included a downloadable PowerPoint and video presentations about the Association. Also created was an attractive key-shaped USB presented in a small pouch that contained the presentations. The AAPG-branded USBs were intended for continued use by the recipients to provide a lasting reminder of the services the Association provides.

AAPG, founded in 1917, has over 35,000 members in 120 countries and has offices in Bahrain, London, Singapore and international headquarters in Tulsa, OK.

About the APEX Awards

The APEX Awards for Publication Excellence is an annual competition for writers, editors, publications staff and business and nonprofit communicators.

The 2011 APEX Awards drew over 3,300 entries with awards given in 11 main categories. Other award winners included Lockheed Martin, FedEx, Merrill Lynch, Bank of America and Toyota.
