The Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Program has a rich history of awarding aspiring geoscience professionals with grants needed to conduct essential geological research in the field. This program is intended to support graduate and post-graduate students in their geoscience field research. Past grant recipients have used scholarship funds to survey lands as far away as the Bogda Mountains of northwest China and as close as Dinosaur National Monument in Colorado, USA.

This scholarship program, established in 1956, is open to students in various fields of the geoscience industry, including exploration of hydrocarbons, economic sedimentary minerals, paleontology, tectonics, relevant applications of environmental geology and many more.

Grants are awarded to students annually in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $3,000. All applications undergo a review and ranking process by three members of the Grants-in-Aid Committee. The top applicants who meet merit criteria and demonstrate financial need are awarded these educational funds.
