The Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Program has a rich history of awarding aspiring geoscience professionals with grants needed to conduct essential geological research in the field. This program is intended to support graduate and post-graduate students in their geoscience field research. Past grant recipients have used scholarship funds to survey lands as far away as the Bogda Mountains of northwest China and as close as Dinosaur National Monument in Colorado, USA.

The GIA award cycle for 2014 is now open! Students enrolled in a geoscience masters or doctoral program can simply visit our online application to learn more about the process and grant requirements. The deadline for this award is January 31, 2014.

Are you a past recipient of a Grants-in-Aid award? Passionate about the field of geoscience? Pay it forward. Find out more about how you can help support an aspiring geoscientist today.

This highly esteemed program not only provides critical field opportunities for high-achieving geoscience students, but it will also enhance the future of petroleum geology as a science and profession.

This scholarship program, established in 1956, is open to students in various fields of the geoscience industry, including exploration of hydrocarbons, economic sedimentary minerals, paleontology, tectonics, relevant applications of environmental geology and many more.

Grants are awarded to students annually in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $3,000. All applications undergo a review and ranking process by three members of the Grants-in-Aid Committee. The top applicants who meet merit criteria and demonstrate financial need are awarded these educational funds.
