James Evans, Ph.D., teaches Structural Geology at the Utah State University College of Science in Logan, Utah. He is the recipient of the 2013 AAPG Foundation Professorial Award. The award was presented at the AAPG Rocky Mountain Section meeting by Michael D. Vanden Berg, president of the AAPG Rocky Mountain Section.

The Professorial Award is given annually to a college professor within the United States who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the field of geoscience instruction. The winner receives a $1,000 cash award for his or her achievement.

This annual award is largely funded by a generous contribution from Jerry Namy, Trustee Associate for the AAPG Foundation. Additional contributions will enable the Foundation to recognize more worthy individuals.

Professors may be considered for the award in two ways: students may nominate a professor or professors may simply apply for the award on their own behalf. For more information, visit http://foundation.aapg.org/programs/professorial-award.cfm.
