The Technical Program Committee for the AAPG 2016 Annual Convention and Exhibition (ACE), chaired by Paul MacKay and vice-chair Jen Russel-Houston, has announced a record number of abstracts – 1,830 – submitted for the event 19-22 June 2016 in Calgary, AB Canada. The number represents a six percent increase in submissions from the 2015 event.

The ACE 2016 technical program is now available online and features more than 900 technical and poster presentations in eight concurrent sessions. Detailed information on other ACE activities such as field trips, short courses, luncheons, International Core Conference and much more are also available now for attendees to get a head start on necessary travel plans and arrangements.

“For the very first time the Technical Program Committee accepted less than half of the abstracts submitted, which speaks not only to the record number received but also their overall superior quality,” said General Chair Paul Mackay. “This ensures that ACE 2016 will continue its century long tradition of delivering an exceptionally strong, juried technical program and sets the table for a highly successful conference.”

With a global audience of an average of 7,000 professionals from more than 72 countries, ACE is one of the most prestigious events for the geosciences community with a tradition of delivering scientific excellence and professional camaraderie. AAPG’s flagship event, in its 99th year, returns to Calgary for the first time in 10 years. A global energy center with the Canadian Rockies in its backyard, Calgary is Canada’s most wired city and a perfect host for the geosciences meeting of the year.

Drawing from a strong local crowd of geoscientists Calgary is home to the ACE 2016 host society the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG) and also the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) which reaches a number well over 7,500 industry professionals.

Calgary also houses Canada's largest geoscience CORE facility which will supply several Canadian and international samples for the CSPG International Core Conference being held post convention on Thursday, 23 June–Friday, 24 June. The Core Conference will offer a dynamic display of 30+ core examples accompanied by poster presentations and exhibitor scheduled talks summarizing the concepts and features of their displays.
