Welcome to “The North Sea After 40 Years”

I am pleased to invite you to the AAPG Europe Region two-day conference in Oslo 6th and 7th October. To spend these two days with industry colleagues from all the North Sea countries will certainly prove to be a good investment both for you who are young, aspiring professionals and you who are experienced and willing to share. By building on all our shared experiences, we know there is a bright future for the North Sea.

The aim of the conference is to pose the question: After over 40 years of varied upstream activity in the North Sea petroleum province, what are the key learnings to take forward in the future?

The conference will focus on five main themes:

During the first day, invited presentations will track the creation of the North Sea petroleum province through the decades, highlighting the critical technical and technological factors for success.

The second day of the conference will build on the lessons learned from day one and concentrate on the North Sea in the 21st century; the present opportunities and challenges for the future. The day will conclude with a plenary session involving representatives of the regulatory bodies from the UK, Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands, which will focus on what measures have been effective in the past in maintaining and encouraging activity in the North Sea upstream sector. Further discussion will occur on which measures may prove effective in the future.

Our aim is for delegates to leave the conference with an appreciation of the issues and challenges that need to be addressed across a wide range of subjects for future success in the North Sea and an insight into some potential solutions.
