Professional Education
Online Training
AAPG now offers training modules over the Internet. These interactive courses are delivered through standard Internet browsers and are optimized for smooth access no matter how you are connected.
Short Courses
Short courses are designed in one-day and two-day formats. They provide low-cost instruction on the practical aspects of geology. Professorial Grants, CEU awards and student discounts apply to short courses.
Education Conferences
AAPG Education Conferences are taught over a five-day period twice a year. They are offered in Houston, Texas and cover timely topics in geology. Taught by lecturers from industry, government, and academia, these courses meet the requirements for CEUs. Professorial Grants and student discounts are available.
Training Seminars
This program provides an opportunity for geological societies and companies, both domestic and international, to engage noted earth science authorities as instructors for their meetings and in-house continuing education programs.
Field Seminars
AAPG Field Seminars, held both in the United States and abroad, provide a laboratory-field approach to the study of certain aspects of geology such as clastics and carbonates, structure, sedimentation, and tectonics.
Visiting Geoscientists Program
This volunteer effort provides AAPG members, who are outstanding members of the geoscience community, an effective vehicle for visiting colleges and universities. The visiting geoscientists provide up-to-date information on geological career options and career path planning, small group discussion, and current technical information from the speaker's area of expertise.
Hedberg Research Conferences and Symposia
Hedberg Conferences are held periodically at locations all over the world. Limited to invited participants, these meetings cover timely research topics.
Distinguished Lecture Program
Each year, with funding provided by the AAPG Foundation, several distinguished lecturers present a variety of geology, science, and technology topics to the participating universities and geological societies throughout North America. In addition, the Association annually brings a renowned international lecturer to North America and sends at least six distinguished lecturers to international venues. Also, an inter-society distinguished lecture program is offered to AAPG's geological societies as well as SEG's geophysical sections in North America.
Career Self-Management
AAPG offers seminars and materials to direct members in career evaluation and self-guidance. These resources assist members in developing personal inventories of skills and aspirations as well as in identifying career options.
Mid-Career Training Centers
The Mid-Career Training Centers, established for the continuing education of geologists, are located in Texas(3), Colorado(1), California(1), and the UK(1). These centers provide career enhancement opportunities for mid-career geologists stressing workstation skills in a variety of software environments.
