AAPG Foundation
The AAPG Foundation was established by AAPG in 1967 to provide a stable source of funding for the Association's scientific and educational programs. Qualified under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS tax code as a nonprofit charitable entity, the Foundation uses members' contributions (tax-deductible for US income tax purposes) to support programs such as:
- Grants-in-Aid to graduate students for field research work
- Grants to undergraduates and their respective geology departments
- Scientific publications, including the AAPG Bulletin
- AAPG Distinguished Lecture program for university groups and geological societies around the world
- Geotechnology Training Centers for enhancing the computer skills of working geologists
- The AAPG Foundation Energy Resources Library
- Programs for teachers at the K-12 level
In 2000-2001, the AAPG Foundation provided over $900,000 for support of these and other educational and scientific programs.
