Business Group Members
AAPG is pleased to offer our Business Group Membership, designed primarily for small national oil companies and their employees. This new group membership procedure is designed to streamline the membership application process for busy oil and gas industry professionals, while providing excellent cost savings to the sponsoring company. Enrollment requires a minimum of twenty-five (25) participants.
AAPG Membership Classes
AAPG has two primary classes of membership—1) Associate (entry-level) and 2) Member (must have at least one year of experience to qualify). Both classes receive the same benefits; however, only Members may vote in AAPG elections, run for office, or be selected as chairs of standing committees of AAPG.
The application processes for Member and Associate is different. Applying for Associate is easy and all we require is the following information:
Associate
- Name and basic contact information
- Birth date and birth place
- Education: name and location of university/college, degree type, date received and major field of study (if multiple degrees received, please list information for each one)
- Years of petroleum industry experience
Member
These individuals will initially be added to the rolls as an Associate while their application is in process.
- Completion of an official application form (provided upon request), including
- Name and complete contact information
- Birth date and birth place
- Education: name and location of university/college, degree type, date received and major field of study (if multiple degrees received, please list information for each one)
- Years of petroleum industry experience
- Three (3) sponsor references (two must be Members of AAPG)
All applications must be approved by the AAPG Executive Committee.
Steps for the Business Group Membership approval:
- Step 1: Send applicant information to AAPG.
- All applicants will apply for Associate. A corporate representative will send AAPG a list of the applicants' including all information outlined above (for each individual). We recommend that this information be supplied on a spreadsheet (rather than on a separate application form for each applicant).
- Step 2: AAPG Executive Committee approval
- As soon as AAPG receives the membership information for an applicant and the AAPG Executive Committee has approved the applicant for membership, we will send the applicant a letter of acceptance, their membership card and a CD/ROM of benefits and information on how to use AAPG membership for discounts on products and services, as well as instructions on access to the digital Bulletin. Their first issue of the EXPLORER will also be sent to the company representative for distribution to participants.
- Step 3: Advancing to Member
- Each Associate who wants to advance to Member status will need to complete an official application form and ask three sponsors to fill out sponsorship forms (AAPG staff will provide the forms upon request).
- Step 4: Member Application Processing
- Send completed Member application forms to AAPG Headquarters in Tulsa for final processing. Once approved by the AAPG Executive Committee, new Members will be provided with information on voting procedures and other leadership opportunities.
Internal Corporate Review Board
AAPG recommends that corporations establish an internal review board to help those employees who are AAPG Associates advance to Members in AAPG. The primary purpose of the review board would be to review Membership application forms for completeness and to assist Member Applicants in locating sponsors. To assist in identifying candidates for an Internal Corporate Review Board, AAPG will provide a list of current AAPG members who are either employed within your company or reside within the vicinity of your company.
Benefits of AAPG Membership:
AAPG membership receives the AAPG EXPLORER magazine, the AAPG Bulletin (digital only), and Search and Discovery e-magazine. In addition, AAPG membership provides worldwide networking, lifelong professional development opportunity, prestige and recognition by belonging to the world's largest professional geological society with over 35,000 members.

Added Business Group Membership Benefits and Discounts
Although AAPG membership dues cannot be discounted, AAPG Business Group Membership offers the following cost-saving, in addition to our standard membership benefits:
Simplified Billing (one statement for all memberships) – Participating corporations will receive one dues billing for all employees that are corporate members; as opposed to individual/multiple employees requesting payment or reimbursement by their employer. Annual dues statements are mandatorily billed at Level 1 rate; however, the company may make necessary adjustments on the billing invoice and remit appropriate dues based on each individual employee's annual salary. Payment by employer will suffice as validation for lower dues rates (levels) for participants.
Discounts – Business Group Membership receives a 10% discount on all AAPG educational services.
To apply for Business Group Membership, you must notify Vicki Beighle, Manager of AAPG Member Services, with the total number of interested participants for your corporation. At that time a contract/agreement will be prepared for your review and corresponding invoice based on total number of participants.
AAPG looks forward to assisting your corporation with group membership. We are confident it will be a successful venture for your employees as well as for AAPG.
