Speakers' and Poster Presenters' Information

All oral session speakers and co-chairs are invited to attend a complimentary continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on the day of their session to receive instructions for session timing, introductions, electronic presentations, and use of audiovisual equipment. PC-based projection will be the only projection format available, and speakers are required to check in at the Speakers' Service Center the day prior to their presentation.

Poster session participants and co-chairs are invited to attend the complimentary continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. on the day of their session to receive last-minute instructions for booth layout, setup, and teardown.

Volunteer to Be a Judge!

Your participation is needed to judge papers and posters! This very important function will determine the winners of the Gabriel Dengo, Ziad Beydoun, and Ozan Sungurlu Memorial Awards. Volunteer judges will be invited to attend a complimentary continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, October 25, to receive judging materials and last-minute instructions. Please mark your registration form to volunteer to be a judge!

Welcome Desk

A Welcome Desk/Message Center will be at the Convention Center beginning Friday, October 22, where you can leave or receive messages while you are attending the conference. External messages for attendees may also be left with the Center via telephone. This number will be included in the Program Book that will be distributed to registrants on site.

Luggage Check

A luggage check will be available on Wednesday, October 27 only. Please inquire at the Welcome Desk.

Opening Ceremony

Get ready for an international meeting experience that you'll never forget!

Start by attending the official Opening Ceremony of this year's International Conference and Exhibition, a colorful and dramatic event featuring honored guests as well as the sights and sounds of Mexico.

The ceremony will be opened by Alfredo E. Guzman, general chair of the conference; Adán Oviedo, president of the host association, Asociación Mexicana de Geólogos Petroleros; and Patrick J.F. Gratton, 2004-05 president of AAPG. You'll be inspired and challenged as the three dignitaries welcome VIPs, guests, attendees and exhibitors to the conference, and as awards are presented to distinguished members of the AMGP.

Also slated are official greetings and remarks by government officials of Quintana Roo State and Cancun City.

And once the ceremony is finished, musicians will lead the procession to the Icebreaker Reception in the Exhibition Hall to greet friends, visit with exhibitors and enjoy beverages and canapés.

Icebreaker Reception

This reception marks the opening of the exhibition and affords you the opportunity to meet with and greet old friends and new acquaintances. All registered students and academic faculty attending the AAPG International Conference and Exhibition are invited to attend the Student Reception sponsored by ExxonMobil. An ExxonMobil representative as well as AAPG and AMGP representatives will be present to greet those attending. This is a great chance to join AAPG and AMGP and learn about membership benefits and benefits of the Student Chapter program.

The top poster will be recognized with the Sungurlu Memorial Award for the Best International Student Poster along with a certificate and monetary award.

AMGP Ceremony of New Board of Directors

All confirmed conference attendees are invited to AMGP's Ceremony of New Board of Directors. After the ceremony all attendees are invited to enjoy a Mexican reception, which will include singing and dancing with traditional mariachis and Mexican music along with typical local drinks, snacks, and canapés.

Cancun will be the site of the first-ever Exhibitor-Sponsored Lunch at an International Conference and Exhibition. All attendees are invited to this complimentary lunch in the Exhibition Hall, Level 3, on Wednesday. show your appreciation, mingle with your colleagues, and revisit the technologies on display at the exhibition on Levels 1 and 3.
