This
module teaches the skills necessary for designing velocity check-shot
surveys and for interpreting check-shot data. Velocity check-shot
surveys are measurements in which a seismic signal generated at the
surface of the Earth is recorded by geophones that are secured at
various depths to the wall of a drilled well. The direction that geophones
are deployed during the data acquisition differs by 90 degrees relative
to the lateral geophone placement used when recording seismic reflection
data at the Earth's surface. Check-shot interpretation is used to
create functions that calibrate stratigraphic depth to seismic image
time.
