Pyramid power: Mayan ruins, like this one at Muyil, are among the attractions awaiting those who attend this year's AAPG International Conference and Exhibition in Cancun. About 300 "high level" management personnel attended. APPEX London has developed into two distinguished presentations, a conference and an expo, each supporting the content of the other. The conference consisted of:

Geo2004: 'Outstanding Success'For an estimated 1,500-plus attendees, the Geo2004 Conference, also held in March in the Kingdom of Bahrain, was an outstanding success. Under the patronage of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the GEO Program Committee assembled an outstanding technical program that included 249 oral presentations, 86 posters, five field trips, five short courses and a core workshop on the Shu'aiba reservoir. More than 60 exhibitors offered information and displays about specific technologies, services, educational opportunities and publications. Bob Baxter and Jack Thomas, representing AAPG, helped members with their needs for publications, membership, meetings, etc. Starting the meeting was a keynote session on "E&P in 2020," which was followed by six concurrent sessions plus a general topical session. The varied program covered such topics as biostratigraphy, reservoir imaging, reservoir management and seismic acquisition -- each focusing on oil and gas opportunities in the Middle East and adjacent areas. The next GEO conference will be held in 2006. |
