Asia Pacific Deepwater Plays: Exploration and Production
12-14 March 2013 | Brunei Darussalam
OPTIONAL FIELD TRIP
Deepwater Slope System Characterization in Brunei Darussalam
14 March (13.00) through 15 March (17.00)
Slope deposits, Kuala Lurah.
The Mio/Pliocene slope play has been evaluated by drilling in Brunei since 1972. Numerous studies characterized the slope systems, however early drilling campaigns indicated that slope depositional reconstructions and reservoir predictions were partly incorrect.
In this core and outcrop workshop we examine a sand lobe discovery deposited on a tectonically active slope and utilize recent sea bed analogues to build a picture of dynamic slope evolution. In outcrop we will examine a set of Miocene deepwater outcrops and discuss evidence for slope deposition, building on the learnings from the core and analogue workshop.
Field Trip Fee: USD 250 per person.
Limit: 20 people (first-come, first-served)
Fee includes Transportation from Empire Hotel (Venue for GTW), to site on both consecutive days; meals and refreshments, guidebook. It excludes travel to Brunei, visa/immigration charges and hotel accommodation. Trip participants return to the Empire Hotel for the night of 14 March.
There will be some walking required involving steep inclines. Attendees should prepare for muddy, uneven terrain. Shoes with good grip (NO sandals or open footwear) are required. Northwest Borneo will be warm and humid, with rain showers possible at any time. Protection from the sun — hat and sunscreen — is an absolute necessity. Participants are strongly reminded of the need to keep hydrated and drink plenty of soft drinks/water which will be made available during the day. Geological hammers are strongly discouraged, and are forbidden in some parts of the National Parks.
Online registration will be available simultaneously with GTW registration. Cancellations for the Field Trip are allowed up to 6 weeks before, with a USD50 cancellation fee retained. Replacements are allowed up to one week before. The Organizers reserve the right to cancel this Field Trip if circumstances necessitate.
