Field Trip to the Natih Formation Source Rocks (Albian-Cenomanian), Adam Foothills, Sultanate of Oman

The registered attendees of the Source Rocks of the Middle East workshop (25-27 January 2017, Abu Dhabi, UAE) will have an opportunity to join an exciting field trip to the Natih Formation Source Rocks (Albian-Cenomanian), Adam Foothills, Sultanate of Oman

This field trip will take you to the outcrops of the Adam Foothills, located 80 km south of the town of Nizwa (Oman), where the source rock facies of the Natih Formation (Albian-Cenomanian) are exposed. These source rocks were accumulated within intrashelf basins equivalent in age to the Shilaif intrashelf basin in the UAE.

The visited outcrops are located in Jabal Madmar, Jabal Salakh and Jabal Qusaibah, lined-up along a seismic-scale transect from the margin to the center of the ancient intrashelf basin, thus allowing to observe significant facies variations and stratigraphic geometries in a proximal-distal direction. to learn more…
