The third day of the 3P Arctic Conference & Exhibition is 1 October. Session chairs Harald Brekke, Erik Henriksen and Jan Inge Faleide will welcome attendees and introduce session five speakers, who will be speaking on Barents Sea, Kara Sea & Northern West Siberia. Anatoly Aseev, Schlumberger, will be the tenth speaker to take the platform on Thursday.

Abstract: Western Barents Sea prospectivity: play types and results from petroleum systems modelling

The Western Barents Sea is a frontier area with a complex geological history and corresponding geophysical challenges for accurate seismic imaging. The geographical and weather-related conditions add further challenges in this Arctic environment and demand reliable seismic solutions. The relatively recent hydrocarbon discoveries, Johan Castberg, Gohta and Alta, encouraged Western Barents Sea oil and gas exploration. Yet, despite few exploration successes, corresponding geologically complex play types still remain difficult to map and analyse on the legacy 2D and even fairly new 3D seismic data. Schlumberger IsoMetrix technology provides single sensor true 3D broadband measurements for full bandwidth imaging of the subsurface in all directions. This high quality data translates to a more detailed interpretation and understanding of the structural and stratigraphic geology and petroleum systems evolution. This in turn results in easier identification and mapping of the subsurface geological features, facilitating creativity that opens new play types and guides future exploration in the Western Barents Sea challenging area covering Bjornoya Basin, Fingerjupet Sub-Basin, Bjornoyrenna Fault Complex and Loppa High.
