This study analyzes sealing units and associated faults in the Yingcheng Formation, Songliao Basin, northeastern China. Sealing characteristics as well as the overall trap are evaluated and new guidelines are proposed for assessing the relationship between strike-slip faults and the sealing system on volcanic gas reservoirs.

The objective of this study was to reconstruct the sedimentary environment, hydrothermal activity, and influences on organic matter enrichment during shale deposition from the eastern Xuefeng uplift in the lower Cambrian Niutitang shale, southern China.

Crude oil samples from the offshore locations of the Nanpu sag are low density and viscosity, indicating good preservation conditions. They are primarily distributed in regions where the thick source rocks interact with faults.

The maturity of the Jurassic source rocks in the northern margin of the Qaidam Basin is the primary factor that controls the areal distribution of oil and gas. This study demonstrates that gas generation in Lower Jurassic source rocks accounts for 95% of the total gas volume.

The likelihood of late gas formation in the Sichuan Basin, China, is examined by comparing with less mature analogues in Lithuania and Australia. Late gas generation from very stable refractory kerogen structures via alpha-cleavage reactions at maturities above 2% equivalent vitrinite reflectance was verified.

The authors develop a method to predict water exponents from nuclear magnetic resonance logs in tight sandstone reservoirs. A theoretical model was established to predict the resistivity index based on fractal theory, and results were validated with data from other tight sandstone reservoirs.

Analyses of fluid inclusion gas were performed to seek direct evidence for the oil-prone, deep-water lacustrine Wenchang Formation source rock, constrain the gas charging time, determine the processes controlling oil and gas accumulations, and identify the active gas source rocks.
