Source-to-sink sediment delivery in the Gulf of Papua from scanning electron microscopy and mineral liberation analysis–aided provenance analysis of deep-sea turbidite sands

Provenance of Pleistocene-Holocene deepwater sediments in the Gulf of Papua (National Science Foundation Source to Sink Focus Area) has been studied to understand sediment sources, glacio-eustatic influences on sedimentary routing, and to better understand processes controlling sediment sources and delivery.

The world-class Middle–Upper Devonian carbonate outcrops of the Lennard Shelf, Canning Basin, Western Australia, offer a unique opportunity to examine reefal carbonate shelf-to-basin evolution in response to multiple coeval extrinsic and intrinsic drivers. Variable styles of carbonate stratigraphic architecture and heterogeneity developed as a function of the interplay between long hierarchical accommodation trends, global biological crises, greenhouse-to-transitional climatic changes, and syndepositional tectonics.

The Late Permian to Late Triassic Great Bank of Guizhou: An isolated carbonate platform in the Nanpanjiang Basin of Guizhou Province, China

The Late Permian to Late Triassic Great Bank of Guizhou (GBG) in southwest China is one of the few isolated carbonate platforms in the world that exposes an essentially complete record of initiation, development, and drowning across multiple platform-to-basin transects. The platform is exceptionally exposed in cross section at the surface by a faulted syncline that rotated strata to a dip angle of approximately 65°.

Distribution, controlling factors, and oil-source correlation of biodegraded oils in the Bohai offshore area, Bohai Bay basin, China

The vast majority of discovered oils in the Bohai offshore area have undergone biodegradation ranging from 1 to 9 on the PM scale (a scale to rank the level of biodegradation, proposed by Peters and Moldowan, 1993). The extent of distribution and biodegradation of all discovered oils in the Bohai offshore area was investigated systematically using geologic and geochemical data to reveal controlling factors of varying levels of biodegraded oils.
