AAPG Student Chapter (AAPG SC) of Padjadjaran University,  in collaboration with Visiting Geoscientist Program (VGP) of AAPG Asia-Pacific, has successfully conducted a One-Day Course “Introduction to Fluvial Petroleum System” by Mr. Bagus Priyanto (Statoil Indonesia) and Mr. Hendra Saputra (Puriska). This Activity was held at Saturday, 7 May, 2016

The course began with a welcome speech by Mr Ismail Halim, president of the student chapter.

This was followed by a talk from Mr. Hendra Saputra on structure and sediment overview such as particle entrainment with Hjulström Diagram, Flow regime, and sedimentary structure, which encompasses plane bedding either because of gravity settling or upper flow regimes, bedforms generated by unidirectional currents (current ripples), bedforms generated by multidirectional flow, graded & imbricate bedding, and bedding plane structures.

The second session began with “Subsurface Analysis of Fluvial System”, again by Mr. Saputra.

Mr. Bagus Priyanto then spoke about “Career Opportunities in the Energy Industry” and touched on recent industry conditions and how geological students are supposed to deal with it. According to BP Energy Outlook, the demand for oil will rise to 45% in 2035, but the supply is decreasing due to discoveries of new proven fields. This fact shows that oil and gas price is a cycle, and one day it will rise again, so geologists are still needed by the industry, said Mr. Bagus.

The course ended with Mr. Sony Hartono, vice president Academic, AAPG SC Unpad 2016 presenting certificates and mementos to the speakers.
