AAPG Asia Pacific expresses its thanks to our pioneer website moderators

Agus Muhammad was one of our very first volunteers in the AAPG Asia Pacific region. He started our Asia Pacific website and ran it until he was ably joined by Mohamad Amin Ahlun Nazzar, then still a student. For many years, they managed this website and populated it with articles from various contributors. It was a highly popular website. Despite his busy work schedule, Agus maintained the website; and Amin helped him very considerably. Amin is now a working professional as well. How time flies. AAPG Asia Pacific now has its own Blog under the AAPG Global section, and we have imported all the valuable earlier stories. Do visit it sometime.

On behalf of the whole Asia Pacific region, I would like to say a big, sincere, Thank You to them for sparing so much personal time to set up, maintain and update the website and wish them all the best in their professional careers.

Hi All,

I am very glad to be of service to AAPG in the Asia Pacific region.

In 2011, I was invited to volunteer and manage AAPG Asia Pacific Website to help Agus while I was an undergraduate student. I’ve been active with our student chapter since 2009. Agus by then had done great things with the website; it had tremendous attention from members, and our template was adopted by some other region websites.

As time went by, AAPG Asia Pacific grew under the leadership of the various presidents. Global trends shifted to online media being a primary form of communication; and we realized that we needed a full-time team to manage the website. Our website came under the purview of AAPG.Org.

I benefited hugely from volunteering with AAPG. My English language skills leapt far ahead of my fellow classmates, and when I graduated and became an AAPG Young Professional, I enlarged my knowledge of the industry; huge thanks to Geovanni C. Kaeng, Chun Tan Hock, Herman Darman, Peter Baillie, and AdriennePereira).

Today, I still support AAPG as the YP Assistant for University of Indonesia and Trisakti University and am grateful to AAPG for the tremendous opportunity afforded to me.

It began a long time ago, when I was a young geophysics professional. That time, AAPG website was in the form of a blog under the supervision of Pak Rovicky (now in Saka Energy) and Pak Herman Darman (who was with Shell for many years). Having some experience in building my department’s website from scratch back in the last year of university, I offered assistance to improve on the AAPG Asia Pacific website. Lo and behold, I was involved in it for many years and now it is being integrated and maintained by HQ in Tulsa.

It was a smooth and fun experience being the administrator of the AAPG Asia Pacific website. Although I volunteered for the sake of volunteering and not for other “mission”, it nevertheless benefited me, particularly the fact that I made a lot of friends through the work. Not just acquaintances, but friends.

I shall say thank you very much, firstly for Pak Rovicky and Pak Herman who had trusted me with the responsibility in the first place, to Adrienne Pereira for her enormous support, for Amin for his tremendous help in backing me up when I was occupied with my full-time job, and all other volunteers. I was happy that through the volunteering, AAPG can connect more closely to its members, professionals and students alike. I wish AAPG Asia Pacific will continue to prosper and have a bright future.
