A shipment of two pallets of used geoscience publications arrived at the Universiti Teknologi Petronas via the AAPG Publication Pipeline program on 21 July 2015. The UTP Library welcomed 74 boxes of textbooks, journals and maps. Coordinating the acceptance was YBhg Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hj Hashim, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP); Professor Dr John Kaldi, American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Representative for Asia-Pacific Region; Associate Professor Askury bin Abd Kadir, Faculty Advisor of AAPG Student Chapter of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, and En Naziri Yusof Senior Manager, Information Resource Centre (IRC).

Appreciating the donation, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) YBhg Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hj Hashim thanked AAPG for their generous contributions for the benefit of students, lecturers and researchers.

The AAPG Publication Pipeline is a wonderful program where the main objective is to improve geoscience education in developing countries by providing used geoscience books and periodicals at no cost to university libraries or other libraries. “Geoscientist helping geoscientist” is how this Publication Pipeline Committee describes its effort of collating used geoscience books and periodicals from AAPG members and delivers them to overseas universities in need. Universiti Technologi PETRONAS kindly sponsored the sea-freight costs of bringing these books in.

This program would most definitely benefit not just the students but also UTP staff because books in all areas of geology are being collected so as to provide a broad base of reference materials for overseas university libraries. The donation brings the total amount of publications donated by the committee to over two tons of much needed books and journals for UTP. All the publications will undergo a cataloguing process before being displayed. Due to the exceptional amount of materials received, this could take a much longer time than anticipated and the students are very excited.

UTP Student chapter, as part of the American Association of Petroleum Geologist (AAPG) members, is proud to receive the contributions.
