Indonesian Student Chapters at AAPG's IPA Booth

Indonesian AAPG Student Chapters had a chance to participate at the 36th IPA Convention and Exhibition, May 23 to 25, 2012 at the Jakarta Convention Center. UNPAD SC, UniversityIndonesia SC and Trisakti University SC collaborated as delegates presented AAPG INDONESIA Student Chapters. Students who represented AAPG Student Chatpers were Rizky Aditya P. and Azifa Alivia F. from AAPG Unpad SC, Fahmi Andrian P. and Indah Permata S. from AAPG UI SC, Ignatius Primadi and Fakhmi Rajab from AAPG Trisakti SC. As we know thatIndonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) is one of the most important events for the oil and gas industry in the region.

The IPA held its 36th Convention and Exhibition at the Jakarta Convention Center. With members contributing around 90 percent of the country’s oil and gas industry. Major companies were available to promote their business side-by-side and promote their business to the visitors. The show was a platform for companies to showcase their products and services. Their theme for this year is “Working Together to Meet Indonesia’s Energy Needs”. The main objective of the IPA Convention and Exhibition is to provide an open dialogue platform for its stakeholders and act as a bridge between the industry and policy makers to address both opportunities and challenges faced by the industry and to come up with best possible solution for the benefits of all stakeholders.

Indonesian AAPG Student Chapters also contributed to this event by presenting a booth. With only a short time for preparation, the Students provided interesting information and activity, especially for newcomers to AAPG. They provided information on how to join as a professional member of AAPG, asked some geoscientists to visited the booth, to soon visit their campuses, to their experience and expertise with the student chapters.

The students at the booth also provided reviews on activities of ndonesian AAPG Student Chapters which consist of 13 universities in Indonesia during this year. Posters were set up, to inform of Indonesian AAPG Student Chapter’s activities.

Ms. Adrienne Pereira, AAPG Asia Pacific Programmes Manager, visited our booth and enjoyed her conversations with our members; discussing international AAPG issues, and encouraged signing-up of new members. had been visited our booth oftentimes and had some conversation about our activity review, international AAPG issues, and our campus life. She was also helped us in explaining the application form for people who interested to be AAPG professional members.

This event also gathered students from other universities, to share information about our Chapters. Activities and problems were discussed, and solutions were found.

The Indonesian Students Oversight Committee and presidents from each student chapters usually attend this gathering. For this time there was just Ms. Elok Galih as the representative from the Oversight Committee and each student chapterwas reprsentated by their presidents.

The three collaborated student chapters – University of Indonesia student chapter, Padjajaran University student chapter and Trisakti University student chapter agreed on a work shift as well as to invite a speaker volunteer for the chapters.
