Building upon AAPG’s successful inaugural event in Myanmar 14-15 August 2014, held jointly with AAPG affiliated society the Myanmar Geosciences Society (MGS), AAPG has signed an MOU with sister society EAGE and MGS  for the joint organization of the first Myanmar Geosciences Conference. The event is scheduled to take place 19-20 November, 2015 in Yangon, Myanmar.  The three societies are very pleased to work together and bring a quality geoscience event to this rather underexplored country that many call the “hottest hotspot” for hydrocarbon exploration in Asia and maybe even the world.

Over the last few years, Myanmar has seen an enormous increase in business activity, including in the energy sector, and interest in the latest bid rounds by the MOGE clearly demonstrate that many oil and gas companies, big or small, are very keen to explore the petroleum basins in this beautiful country. Peter Baillie, President, AAPG Asia Pacific Region commented “Both AAPG and EAGE saw the need for a quality, focused geoscience event where the industry and academic world could come together and discuss opportunities. And with the participation of the Myanmar Geoscience Society, we have joined with our logical local partner enabling us to give back the local community as per our societies' missions”.
