Sequence Stratigraphy: Concepts Principles & Applications to Clastic Depositional Environments
11-13 July 2016 | Lagos, Nigeria

Enhance your skills with this AAPG short course on Sequence Stratigraphy designed for geoscientists, geophysicists, biostratigraphers & engineers needing a fundamental understanding of the principles and applications of sequence stratigraphy. This 3-day short course will examine the underlying geological principles, processes and terminology related to sequence stratigraphic interpretation. The strength of this course is the application of these basic principles to subsurface datasets in a series of well-founded exercises.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the concepts of sequence stratigraphy and their application to a wide range of subsurface data types (seismic, well-log, core, reservoir production data).
  • Visualize and interpret siliciclastic non-marine, shallow-marine and deepwater depositional setting in subsurface data.
  • Identify flooding surfaces, parasequences, sequence boundaries, incised valleys and use these elements for correlation.
  • Apply pragmatic, fit-for-purpose approaches to sequence stratigraphic interpretation.
  • Relate sequence stratigraphy to various controls (relative sea levels, sediment supply) on basin architecture.
  • Utilize sequence stratigraphy to develop exploration and production strategies.

Course pricing includes all printed course materials, writing and exercise materials and lunches & tea breaks.
