American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)

One of the vital functions of AAPG is to provide resources and programs for students at both the graduate and undergraduate level. These programs provide opportunities for students to have contact with the professional geoscience community, to have access to unique learning and leadership opportunities & to receive member benefits.

Student member benefits include subscriptions to the AAPG Bulletin, and the Explorer; discounts on publications, courses, and conferences; and an online database of student resumes.

AAPG – The Experience
David Anomneze
David Anomneze

I joined AAPG in 2006, during my undergraduate studies in geoscience and attended my first Nnamdi Azikiwe AAPG Student Chapter Annual Technical Meeting by second quarter of the same year.

With my brief involvement in AAPG from my undergraduate to graduate studies, I have been practically exposed to diverse learning opportunities such as free online courses, short courses and access to the AAPG Bulletin. The association brought to me, the most passionate aspect of the geoscience career which was combining geoscience concepts with integrated technology. I had the opportunity to be a part of the first AAPG-NAPE Student Leadership Summit and also to serve as AAPG Student Chapter Sub-Committee Lead at the AAPG YP/Students Volunteer Committees of the 2013 NAPE Conference.

The association has positioned me to think beyond just being a Geologist, but a Geologist with a passion for professionalism following standards, respecting principles, thinking critically, setting goals and achieving them by making use of strategic prioritization. With the solid collaboration of AAPG and the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists NAPE, I foresee a greater breakthrough in geoscience activities and discoveries in Nigeria. The conferences, technical meetings and trainings organized separately and in collaboration have been the greatest achievement of geosciences in Nigeria, reassuring confidence in discovery and exchanging ideas on state of the art technologies.
