The annual orientation program for the new intakes of Geology Department of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria was held on Saturday, 22nd July 2017. This annual orientation program is organised to welcome new intakes and provide them with guiding advise to help make freshmen stay at the university successful. The event was organised by the leadership of the students’ Associations of the Department comprising the American Association of Petroleum Geologists – AAPG, Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists – NAPE, Society of Exploration Geophysicist – SEG and the Nigerian Association of Mining and Geosciences Society – NMGS) and was well attended by both freshmen and returning students.
Event facilitator & AAPG Visiting Geoscientist, Adeolu Aderoju, delivered a one-hour talk sharing with the students the niceties of making the best out of the University. He shared with them the required values expected for them to succeed in their academic pursuits, using his personal experiences to support the talk. Participants were informed about the professional Associations and student chapters on campus. Benefits of joining the AAPG were highlighted during the meeting. The total number of students’ present was 43, comprising both old and returning students.
