The 2017 AAPG GTW workshop on Unconventional hydrocarbons successfully kicked-off on 20th June at the Century City Conference Centre in Cape Town, South Africa.
The workshop focused on updating attendees on the latest development and best practices on unconventional resource exploration and divided into sessions based on the following themes:
- Unconventional Resources, Global overview and African landscape
- Geoscience and Engineering Characterization of Unconventional plays
- Making the Unconventional plays work
- Environment and Legislative issues
Kicking off on 20th June with an inaugural keynote speech delivered by Joe Rainey — President, Eastern Hemisphere, Halliburton, day 1 of the workshop included session keynotes by Niall Kramer of the South African Oil and Gas Association, SAOGA, and Vincenzo DeGennaro — Geomechanics Advisor for Europe & Africa at Schlumberger.
Day 1 of the meeting was immediately followed by a cocktail reception supported by the Geological Society of South Africa, GSSA.
On 21st June, keynotes were delivered by Phumla Ngesi of the Petroleum Agency, South Africa and Rodrigo Sequiera — Chief Technical Advisor, Halliburton.
