The 2nd African Geoscience Student Conference themed "Exploring the Depth & Breadth of the Geosciences" was hosted by Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, KNUST located in Kumasi City, Ghana, and an enthusiastic team of Faculty Advisors, lecturers and students from KNUST and student participants from West Africa, worked together to organize an educative conference.

The conference featured various activities including keynote addresses, special session presentations by professionals, student technical presentations, the SEG Challenge Bowl competition and an evening networking event.

Good oral presentations were delivered by students on various geoscience topics including groundwater studies, geophysical investigations, sequence stratigraphy, rock physics, hydrocarbon prospects evaluation and geological modeling. The students demonstrated a good understanding of their subjects and were well prepared for their presentations. A total of twenty oral presentations were delivered by participating students

A field trip was organized to Lake Bosumtwi Impact Crater on the third day of the conference, while an evening networking reception was held in a student lounge at KNUST on Day 1 of the conference. The atmosphere was conducive for networking between professionals and students, with several students maximizing the opportunity.

The AGSC conference has been beneficial and stimulating to students. It has been helpful in giving them a focus in their academics and broadening their view on many issues, while helping to steer them unto the right geoscience career path.
