Upper Triassic continental red beds comprising thick stacked fluvial sandstones and interbedded floodplain / playa lake mudstones of the Loukaimeden formation. This section in the Ourika Valley, 50km south of Marrakech in the High Atlas of Morocco, will be visited on the conference field trip. It offers an analogue section for subsurface reservoirs in North Africa and is the age equivalent of similar continental red beds that outcrop around the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia.
